Blanche Bacorn Everingham

Blanche Bacorn Everingham drifted peacefully away on Super Bowl Sunday, from the hands of daughter Carol, and into the harmony of the heavens. At 98, Blanche is last of the 8 children of Clara & Garrett Ezra Bacorn of Elmira NY. Named after the 1916 silent movie star, Blanche Sweet, and like her life-long beloved sister Evie (b. 1913), named after Lady Evelyn of England, both were born in their Grandfather Ezra\'s home (corner of 6th &Davis) - the present site of Elmira College campus Health Center! Having been \"pre-college\" bound, the Bacorn sisters, Evie in \'35 and Blanche in \'38, did graduate with a \"Bachelor Degree\" from Elmira College in business. On Valentines Day 1944, \"Miss Bacorn\" typing & business teacher at Ithaca High School, became engaged to the Ag teacher & school wrestling coach, Robert I. Everingham. They were married \"quickly\" Memorial Day weekend in Cornell\'s Sage Chapel -- in a \"shotgun wedding\" (as the groom told his Cornell AGR fraternity brothers) -- but it was \"Uncle Sam holding the shot gun.\" Draft notice in hand, the newlyweds went south -- RIE to boot camp and BBE became research librarian at Duke University. In Jan \'45 Private Everingham was sent overseas, and his darling \"B\" moved to Rochester NY, to share an apt. with sister Evie, and to take grad courses for a Master\'s Degree from Univ. of Rochester. In Nov \'46, Staff Sergeant Everingham, honorably discharged w/Purple Heart, passionately returned to his parents Edna & William French Everingham\'s family farm in LaFayette, and now proudly, with a \"Mrs. Robert I. Everingham\" at his side... \"Blanche\" settled in -- a daughter born the following August, joining the Presbyterian church Apr 10, 1949, prized son Bob Jr born on March 7, 1950; and on for the next six decades, a life rich in literature, arts and travel. Her amazing \"personal best\" -- was reading the 7 vol. of Proust\'s \"Things of Remembrance Past\" -- in French! -- and being on Côte d\'Azur France with her daughter -- mauve being declared \"a pigment of the imagination\" ... So with the tintinnabulation of the Bells, bels & Belles of St David\'s Episcopal and the countryside chimes of LaFayette Columbian Presbyterian, and Le Petit Prince sharing his flock of bird flight, Blanche B. Everingham continues on, ever enchanted by the wonders of the great beyond. In her heart, she will always carry the love of her childhood at 506 W. Water -- now a historic Painted Lady -- with siblings Rayne, Garry, Evie, Bob, Dick, Fred & Jeannie. \"Aunt Blanche\" was just designated legal \"Next of Kin\" for eldest \"in testate\" nephew Raynesford Taylor Bacorn, but is survived by dozens more Bacorn nephews & nieces -- grand and great! -- from Boston to Texas, Spain to Australia; and the very last Everingham nephew Rick Williams & family in CA. \"MOM\" leaves behind her adored AFS son Paco Marco of Barcelona, and her Provençal \"hitchhiking buddy!\" and only daughter Carol. A \"Celebration of Life\" memorial service will begin at 11am Sat. April 11th in the lovely apple orchard Ballweg-Lunsford Funeral Home location, 2584 Field Lane, LaFayette. Interment will follow at the LaFayette Rural Cemetery in the Everingham family plot: next to husband Robert I. Everingham Sr. and beloved son Bob Jr., and nearby, her dear, dear mother-in-law Edna I. Everingham who taught a young newlywed everything about canning & cooking & molasses cookie-making to nourish those healthy farm appetites...
