Charlotte M. Smith

Charlotte (Leuth) Smith, 87, of Otisco Valley, died Sunday, April 17, 2016. She was born and grew up in Wisconsin and graduated from Kendall High School in 1946. She followed her sister Adaline to upstate New York where she met the love of her life, Clifford Smith. She and “Cliff” lived in LaFayette for 12 years and then moved to a home in Otisco Valley in 1963 where she resided until her passing. She was widowed and raised six children as a full time mother and homemaker - selflessly, devoting her life to her children and grandchildren. Previous to marriage and motherhood Charlotte worked for Pepsi-Cola and Onondaga Savings Bank. She worshipped at Otisco Valley Bible Chapel, and earlier at South Spafford Bible Chapel - Favorite bible verses: John 3:16-18. She was predeceased by her husband, Clifford and sons, Bradley and Gary Smith. In addition to the love of her immediate family, she enjoyed: flower gardening – especially the Spring crocus, daffodils, tulips, and lilacs in her yard; spending time with her church family; country and gospel music; TV game shows – Jeopardy in particular; baking; birdwatching; and writing poems. Above all her favorite time of the year was Christmas Eve and the tradition of the kids and grandkids “home coming”. Surviving are daughters, Kathryn (Bob Lough) Craner of Fulton, New York, Diane Reed of Fayetteville, New York; sons, Steve (Sherry) Smith of homer, New York and Carl Smith of Otisco Valley, New York; sister, Adaline Crandall of Lysander, New York; brothers, Charles (Rose) Leuth of Reedsburg, Wisconsin and James Leuth of Illinois; ten grandchildren, numerous great-grandchildren, nieces and nephews. Calling hours will be on Friday, April 22, 2016 from 12 pm to 2 pm with services to follow immediately at Ballweg & Lunsford Funeral Home, Inc., 2584 Field Lane, LaFayette, New York. 13084. Burial will be in LaFayette Rural Cemetery. Friends and family are invited to a casual Celebration of Life at Orchard Vali Golf Club in LaFayette, New York.
