Edward J. Grinnell

Edward J. Grinnell, 74, of Tully, New York, died Wednesday, April 28, 2010 at the VA Medical Center in Syracuse, New York after a courageous battle with Multiple Myeloma. Born in Camden, New York, he was the son of the late Theodore and Helen (Rowell) Grinnell. He was a graduate of Syracuse University where he received a Bachelor's Degree in Electrical Engineering and a Masters Degree in Education from SUNY Oswego. He retired in 1992 after 36 years of service as an engineer at General Electric where he was project manager for the Heavy Military. He was an Army veteran. Ed was a 45 year member of Tully Fire Department and served as an EMT. He was a member of Grace Episcopal Church where he was a founding member of Loaves & Fishes, a member of GE Elfun Society, Pheasants Forever, and The Grinnell Family Association Genealogy Group. He served on the SU Alumni Board of LC Smith School of Engineering and Boys & Girls Club of Syracuse. He loved hunting, fishing, growing garlic on his farm in Cato and camping in the Adirondacks. Ed is survived by his wife of 55 years, Patty Davis Grinnell; son, Theodore (Shawna) Grinnell of Truxton, New York; daughters, Elaine (Michael) Hutson of Tully, New York, Valerie (Dennis) Hartnett of DeRuyter, New York, Sue (Bruce) Wilson of Truxton, New York, Lisa (Louis) Morgan of Homer, New York and Teresa (Michael) Hoke of Tully, New York; sister, Mary Ellen (Richard) Matson of Cortland, New York; Sister-in-law, Lois(Ward) Tillotson; grandchildren, Jennifer (Michael) Sherwood, Jill (Travis) Gilmore, Tracey Hutson, Alison Grinnell, Erik, Kristin, Robert, and Lindsay Wilson, Zachary and Alyssa Morgan, Julia, Kyle, and Owen Hoke; great-grandchildren, Brianne, Erik, Donovan, Moses, Cormac, Sullivan, and Landon. He is also survived by several nieces, nephews, cousins and he will be missed by his German Shorthair dog, Mitzie. Ed's family would like to thank Dr. Jane Hudson, Nurse Practitioner Linda McHugh, Colleen Galvin and everyone in Infusion. Services will be Saturday, May 1, 2010, 10:00 a.m. at Grace Episcopal Church, 13 Court Street, Cortland, New York. Burial will be in Tully Cemetery, State Street, Tully, New York. Calling hours will be Friday, April 30, 2010, 2:00 - 4:00 p.m. and 6:00 - 9:00 p.m. at Ballweg & Lunsford Funeral Home, Inc., 2584 Field Lane, LaFayette, New York. Donations in lieu of flowers may be made to Tully Hose Company or to Loaves & Fishes at Grace Episcopal Church.
