Eleanor Margaret Mortell

Eleanor “Ellie” Mortell, 77, formerly of North Syracuse, NY and a longtime resident of The Valley, passed away on Monday, 22 September 2014, at home with her daughter and family in Jacksonville, NC where she has been living and cared for by them the past 11 ½ years. Ellie was born in Syracuse, NY, the daughter of the late Frank and Catherine (Leamy) Burkhardt. She is also preceded in death by her grand-daughter, Michele Renee` and twin great-grandsons, Michael Thomas and Nicholas John Carter; ex-husband and lifelong friend, Tom Mortell; brother-in-law, Peter Bonito; and longtime friend, James Medler Jr and his son, James Medler III. She was a graduate of Onondaga Valley Academy, where she was a Cheerleader and member of Kappa Epsilon Delta Sorority, and attended OCC. Through the years she was employed by The Addis Co; Colonial/Eastern Airlines; YMCA; Vega Industries, INC; Carrier Transicold Co; BonTon; and St. Joseph’s Hospital working in the areas of Receptionist, Switchboard Operator, Customer Service, Accounts Receivable, Payable, Credit and Collections. She was a communicant of Our Lady of Lourdes. She loved God, Country, Family and Friends, and enjoyed drawing, golfing, bowling and camping. She will be greatly missed by her loving family and friends, until one by one Our Father calls us back Home to Him and we rejoice in one of the many dwelling of His Kingdom, together again. Ellie is survived by her sister, Jean (Burkhardt) Bonito of Syracuse, NY; daughter, Catherine (Mortell) and son-in-law, John Carter of Jacksonville, NC; grandchildren, Melissa Rose and her fiancée Rob Steele, Michael Carter and his wife Gina, and Matthew Carter and his wife Lyndsey; great-grandchildren, Christian, Savannah and Camden Carter, Kaylee and Caleb Rose, and Jacob and Jack Carter; daughters by love, Jeannette Grammatico, Patricia Mortell Schiano and Maureen Mortell Avery, and their children, Vito Dottolo, Kevin Goodman, Jeanelle Grammatico, Kristina and Taylor Schiano and Ryan Mortell. Godsons Timothy Lane and Christopher Dottolo; lifelong friends, Barbara Post, Jane Moore, Joy Lane, Lois and Norm Moritz; Jim’s children, Patti Metz, Mary Bogart, Allen Medler, Kelly VanDusen, Alice Ly, Wendy Mazzole, Therese Teachout and all of their families. Funeral services will be held Tuesday, 30 September 2014, 9:30 a.m. at Ballweg & Lunsford Funeral Home, Inc., 4612 S. Salina Street, Syracuse, NY 13205 and 10:00 a.m. in Our Lady of Lourdes, 300 Valley Drive, Syracuse, NY 13207 where a Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated. Entombment will be in St. Mary’s Mausoleum, 4100 E. Genesee Street, DeWitt, NY 13214. Calling hours will be held Monday, 29 September 2014, 4:00 to 8:00 p.m. at the funeral home.
