Evelyn H. Carroll

Evelyn H. Carroll, 89, of Syracuse, passed away peacefully at home on Tuesday, January 2, 2018, while surrounded by her loving family. Born in Syracuse, she was a daughter of the late William and Flora (McQuaid) Hunt. Evelyn was married to the love of her life, Thomas Carroll, for 63 years until his death in 2012. It was said by Tom that she was the prettiest girl in Pompey. Evelyn was truly an amazing person who was loved by all and disliked by none. The most important thing in life was her family, and especially her grandchildren. In addition to having the biggest heart, she was a woman of many talents—one of which was making the best potato salad. Evelyn was also an avid bowler for years, enjoyed casino trips with her friends from Our Lady of Lourdes, and loved to watch the numbers and play Take 5. She was lucky to be blessed with wonderful and caring neighbors. Evelyn was a devout Catholic and longtime communicant of St. James Church. Evelyn is survived by her children, William Carroll of Virginia Beach, VA, Patricia (Scott) Fredenburg of Nedrow, Kathleen (Kevin) Darcy of Fremont, Elizabeth (Lee) Scriber of Nedrow, and Ellen (Michael) McManus of Camillus; grandchildren, Lee Scriber (Rebecca Wright), Brendan Fredenburg, Kelly (Bryan) Mengel, Kristen Darcy, Erin Darcy, Jack McManus, Katie McManus, and Claire McManus; great-grandson, Colton Mengel; sisters, Florence (John) Maines of Manlius and Grace (Arnold) Stewart of Pompey; and several nieces and nephews. In addition to her husband, she was predeceased by her brothers and a sister. Calling hours will be Friday, January 5, 2018, from 4 to 7 p.m. at Ballweg & Lunsford Funeral Home, 4612 S. Salina Street, Syracuse, NY 13205. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10 a.m. on Saturday, January 6, 2018, at Our Lady of Hope (formerly St. James Church), 4845 S. Salina Street, Syracuse, NY 13205. Burial will be in the spring in Immaculate Conception Cemetery, Pompey.
