James C. Munnell

James C. Munnell, Jr., 51, of LaFayette, New York went to his creator in the presence of his family unexpectedly on Thursday, October 4, 2007. Jim was a great human being, husband, father, grandfather, son and friend to many. He was a 1973 graduate of LaFayette Central School and in 1978 graduated with a Bachelor of Science degree in Criminal Justice from Brockport State College. Jim was truly the ultimate volunteer. He was active with the LaFayette Republican Committee, was a member and former Elder of the Columbian Presbyterian Church, and a member and past treasurer of the LaFayette Athletic Booster Club. As an athlete, Jim was a co-captain of the 1973 state championship basketball team for LaFayette Central High School. Jim was employed by Midstate Printing for the past 28 years. He was the town tax assessor for the Town of LaFayette. Jim absolutely loved the outdoors, with hunting being his passion. Many of you who tasted Jim's chicken, Jims BBQ chicken was the best. Jim is survived by his wife of 22 years, Sarah "Stever" Rockwell; his parents, Jim and Patsy Munnell of Fredonia, PA; a son, Private Joshua James (Sarah) Munnell of the U.S. Army, Ft. Campbell, KY; daughters, Melanie (Rich) Doctor Yockell from N. Syracuse, and Sarah Doctor (Tony) Ross from Crofton, Md.; Sisters, Vicky (J. Edward) Marstellar from Fredonia, PA, Jamie (Kevin Dix) Currier-Dix from Phoenix, NY and Pamela (Tom) Sutton from Eden, NY; four grandchildren, Atticus James Munnell, twins: Shane Michael and Alexandra Jane Yockell, and Savannah Caitlyn Doctor, as well as numerous nieces, nephews, friends, and his dog, Murphy. Jim was predeceased by a sister, Susan Hinsdale in 1982. Services will be Saturday, October 6, 2007, 10:00 a.m. in Columbian Presbyterian Church, corner of Rte. 20 and Rte.11, LaFayette, New York. Per the wishes of the family, internment will be private. Friends may call Friday, October 5, 2007, 3:00 7:00 p.m. at Ballweg & Lunsford Funeral Home, 2584 Field Lane, LaFayette, New York.
