Malcolm Knapp

Malcolm Wells Knapp February 5, 1930 - October 30, 2013 Malcolm Wells Knapp, 83, of LaFayette, passed away Wednesday, October 30, 2013, at home, surrounded by his family. Malcolm was born in Jamesville to the late Otto and Irene Knapp. He graduated from Jamesville Central School and the State University of New York at Morrisville with a degree in Agricultural Engineering. As a life-long farmer, he was the owner and operator of Hiscock and Knapp farms in LaFayette and belonged to many farm organizations. Malcolm loved to garden and generously shared the bounty of his crops with his family and friends. He was also a real estate broker for Coldwell-Banker for twenty-five years. He was a founding member and chairman of the LaFayette Apple Festival for over thirty years. Over the years Malcolm also served as an Elder at the Columbian Presbyterian Church and as a member and past master of Tully Masonic Lodge #896, a thirty-second degree Mason, and member of the Scottish Rites and Tigris Shrine as well as District Deputy Grand Master for the Onondaga Districts. Malcolm loved the Town of LaFayette and was involved in the community by serving on the Town Board, the LaFayette Republican Committee and as Town Justice for forty-three years. In those forty-three years he enjoyed performing over 1000 weddings. Malcolm was honored to be selected as President of the Onondaga County Magistrates Association, President of the New York State Magistrates Association and was chosen New York State Magistrate of the Year by his peers. Malcolm was known for his sense of humor, broad smile, hearty laugh and his ability to find the good in everyone he met. He is survived by his beloved wife of fifty-nine years, Bettye (Hiscock), sons Malcolm Douglas (Anne), David (Donna) and predeceased by his daughter, Deborah Miller (Kenneth). His nine grandchildren and two great-grandchildren (Douglas, Kenneth, Justin, Ashley, Gabrielle, Brittany, Devon, Shannon, Oliver, Katherine and Delanie) were the joy of his later years. He is also survived by his brothers Merrell (Audrey), Bruce (Sybil) and sister Joyce Klock and predeceased by his brother Melvin (Lea) as well as many nieces and nephews and his pet miniature donkeys Jack and Jenny. Friends may call from 2 – 6 pm on Saturday at Ballweg & Lunsford Funeral Home, Inc., 2584 Field Lane, Lafayette (Cardiff). Burial will be in LaFayette Rural Cemetery. Services will be at 2 pm on Sunday at Columbian Presbyterian Church, corner Rt. 20 and Rt. 11 LaFayette. In lieu of flowers donations can be made to the Tully Masonic Lodge #896 or Columbian Presbyterian Church in LaFayette.
