Nancy L. McCormick

Nancy McCormick, 74, died suddenly at home on Tuesday, December 1, 2015. She was known for her love of family, devotion to her Chihuahua, Muffin, concern for animal welfare, love of nature and of music, and generosity. Nancy was an excellent and compassionate nurse for 40 years. She received a Bachelor of Science degree from Syracuse University in 1961, and worked as an RN in the Intensive Care Unit at Crouse-Memorial Hospital for 11 years. She completed her nursing career in Crouse’s Labor and Delivery unit. Nancy had a special way of comforting families of patients who were seriously ill or died. She is survived by her sister, Susan Morse; brother, Howard McCormick; nieces, Meg Bassinson (and her husband, Scott), Cynthia Morse, Lisa McCormick and Amy McCormick; nephews, John Morse, Andy Morse, Jeff McCormick and Lance McCormick; great-nieces, Willow Lilkas-Morse and Taigan McCormick; and great-nephews, Paul Bassinson, Jesse McCormick and Skyler McCormick. Nancy was predeceased by her parents, John and Veronica McCormick; her sister, Jeanette; nephew, James McCormick; and great-nephew, Max Bassinson. She also leaves many friends from her nursing days and her Central High School class. Nancy was deeply appreciative to the staff of Stack Veterinary Clinic for their good care of Muffin. Nancy will be missed, especially by her sister, Susan. The two shared a particularly wonderful and carefree time together in Tucson, Arizona, for over a year in the early 1950’s. As poet Carol Saline wrote, “There are so many memories. The interweaving of those funny, joyful, angry, painful and historic memories creates the foundation on which every sister relationship rests.” Nancy always said she did not want flowers at a service because donations in her memory would mean the most to her. Nancy’s family is grateful for the loving support of friends at this sorrowful time and welcomes them to come to her funeral service at 2:00 PM on Sunday, December 6, 2015 at Ballweg & Lunsford Funeral Home, Inc., 4612 S. Salina Street, Syracuse, NY 13205. There will be no calling hours.
