Ola Lunsford

Ola Lunsford, 89, of Syracuse NY passed away on June 9. 2013. She reached the end of her earthly long goodbye, to enter the Kingdom of Heaven. She was predeceased by her husband of 60 years, William Lunsford and sisters, Helen Hibbard, Olive Mongak and Irene Pross. She was born in North Brookfield New York and a graduate of Waterville High School and Utica Memorial School of Nursing. After graduation, together with her twin Olive, she was commissioned as a second Lieutenant in the US Army during World War II. She met and married William in California at the end of the war. After moving to Syracuse, she raised her family and worked at Community General Hospital from the day it opened for 25 years on 2 West. She retired with many friends made along the way. Her lifelong friend Isabelle Ders, was very special to her. Del Bauer was closest to her and many weekly breakfasts were shared together celebrating their friendship. She is survived by her three daughters. Barbara (Greg) Lester of Deposit, NY, Cheryl (Ed) Tribe of Bradenton, FL and Bonnie (Eric) Christopherson of Lafayette NY. She is also survived by her five grandchildren, Kurt and Shane Lester, Darcy Fortunato, Jennifer Campbell and Mathew Newton. She has 11 great-grandchildren and several nieces and nephews. Mom was a longtime member of First Baptist Church of Syracuse. She loved it when her family attended the service with her. The impact Mom had on our lives is cause for celebration. We would like to thank all of the staff over the last five years at Summerfield, Clarebridge and her last stay at Iroquois Nursing Home. Her last hours were made so comfortable with the loving attention and care of Nurse Bob Ferguson. Calling hours are Saturday, June 15th from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. at Ballweg and Lunsford Funeral Home, 4612 S. Salina Street, Syracuse with a funeral service to immediately follow at 1 p.m. at the funeral home with Pastor Scott Kavanagh officiating. Burial will follow in Onondaga Valley Cemetery.
