R. Isabel Ders

R. Isabel (Barnes) Ders September 5, 1924 - January 4, 2013 Isabel Ders, 88 of Nedrow, New York, passed away peacefully at Loretto this past Friday. Isabel was born September 5, 1924 on Barnes Road, North Brookfield to Thomas Raymond and Ruth Furner Barnes and grew up on the family farm. She attended North Brookfield Grade School and graduated from Waterville High School. Isabel met her husband John P. Ders one day in North Brookfield as she rode her horse through town. The rest as they say is history and she and John were married for 66 years! She attended Central City Business Institute in Syracuse for secretarial training which aided her long career working at Sears Roebuck which she retired from after 25 years in 1984. Isabel raised her four children and ensured all graduated from college. Isabel had many hobbies such as knitting, crocheting, sewing, ceramics and many other crafts, as well as playing golf and all kinds of cards with family and friends including bridge. She was a member of the Women's Club LTD of Syracuse. Isabel and her husband, John were lifelong parishioners at St. James Catholic Church in Syracuse. Isabel was a loving Mother and an adored wife. Isabel was predeceased by her husband John on May 17, 2012. Isabel is survived by her children; Corinne (Paul) DuBay of Richmond, Virginia, Peter M. (Peggy) Ders of Morristown, New Jersey, John Robert Bob (Claire) Ders of South Otselic, New York and Jacquelyn (Richard) Van Buren of Longmont, Colorado. Isabel was the proud Grandma of six grandchildren, six great-grandchildren and a special aunt to her many nieces and nephews. She is also survived by her two brothers and four sisters-in-law, Joe (Joan) Barnes of Waterville , New York, Bruce (Sally) Barnes of Madison, New York, Betty Barnes of North Brookfield, New York and Vera Barnes of Stockwell, New York . She was predeceased by her parents and four brothers and a sister-in-law, Delmar, Roger (Mary), Lester and Phillip. A Memorial Mass will be held on Friday, January 11th at St. Bernard's Catholic Church in Waterville at 11 a.m. Spring interment will be in St. Bernards Cemetery.
