Roger David McElhannon

Roger David McElhannon, 59, of LaFayette, New York, died Saturday, January 30, 2016 at home with numerous friends and family members at his side after battling vascular disease for many years. Roger was a devoted husband, father, brother and friend to many always putting their needs before his own. Roger could do anything he put his mind to; painting cars, fixing any kind of motorized vehicle and construction. He worked for numerous construction companies throughout his life. Prior to his son David’s paralyzing motorcycle accident in 2004, with David working at his side. Starting as a laborer and operator climbing the ladder to a foreman position. He had a reputation as “one hell of a great operator, worker and foreman”. He sadly had to retire due to his illness in 2010 from Pinnacle Construction. Rog was always the first one to lend a helping hand to anyone, pouring concrete, building a home and on several occasions assisting the LaFayette Community Council and LaFayette Optimist Club with projects. His passion was his family and he was their “rock”. He loved watching David, Danny, Sarah and all their cousins and friends ride every possible dirt bike, 3 and 4 wheelers, go carts and snowmobiles in their yard as soon as they were able to reach the pedals. He and David spent most of these last years, hanging out in their “mancave” barn, built by Ted and Lucas Amidon, where everyone was welcome. Roger was the son of the late Robert J. "RJ" and Marian "Sis" McElhannon. He was also predeceased by his brother, Rick McElhannon; father-in-law, Richard Dodge and sister-in-law, Susan Dodge. Roger is survived by his loving and devoted wife of 32 years the former Sharon Dodge; sons, David and Daniel; daughter Sarah (Derek Printup) McElhannon and his “adopted” daughter, Elizabeth Daniel; brothers, Bob (Jody) and Jamie (Patsy) McElhannon; sister, Jackie (Rich) Roorda; several nieces, nephews, aunts, uncles, cousins and close friends. Services will be held at 1:00 p.m. on Wednesday, February 3, 2016 at LaFayette Alliance Church, Route 20, LaFayette, New York 13084. Burial will be in the spring. There will be no calling hours. Due to allergies, Roger's family has requested no flowers. Contributions may be made to the Roger David McElhannon Trust Fund Accopunt c/o NBT Bank, 5789 Route 80, Tully, New York 13159
