Thomas D. Lynch

Thomas D. Lynch October 27, 1920 - December 6, 2011 Thomas D. Tom Lynch, US Army Retired, 91, of Jamesville, New York, passed away Tuesday, December 6, 2011 at his home. Born October 27, 1920 in Syracuse, New York, he was the son of the late Eugene M. and Ruth E. (Lewis) Lynch. He was a graduate of Valley High School and while a student was a New York State track champion qualifying for the United States Olympic Team. He later attended Syracuse University. A highly decorated US Army veteran, he proudly served his country from 1942-1963 and participated in WW II, the Korean War and the Berlin Wall Crisis. He was wounded during the Central European campaign in Metz, France, and during the Battle of the Bulge in Bastogne, Belgium. After his retirement, he went to work for Aetna Insurance. He later started Toms Golf Fix Shop after attending the PGA trade school, where he mastered the art of golf club design and repair. Mr. Lynch designed and repaired golf clubs, as well as offered advice, for many professional tour golfers. He was one of only two PGA certified craftsman east of the Mississippi. Always on the go and active, Tom also worked until his death for his daughter at Annas Country Store in Fabius, New York. He was a member, chaplain and historian for the Archie Van Patten American Legion Post #141 and was a member of the PGA Golf Craftsman Association, the Tom Lynch Golf League (formerly the Aetna Insurance Golf League), the Manlius VFW Golf League and the Jamesville Optimist Club. He is survived by three children, Thomas R. (Jean) Lynch of Inverurie, Scotland, Joan S. (Kenneth) Loan of Syracuse, New York and Michael W. (Sandra) Lynch of Canastota, New York and formerly of Tully, New York; a brother, Richard (Barbara) Lynch of Jacks Reef, New York; eight grandchildren, Thomas E., Laura, Janet, Abram, Jeffrey, Anna, Ryan and Adrienne; and ten great-grandchildren. He was predeceased by his wife, the former Maryon A. Prosser in 2006 and an infant son, Richard. A funeral service will be Saturday, December 10, 2011, 10:00 a.m. at Ballweg & Lunsford Funeral Home, 4612 S. Salina Street, Syracuse, New York 13205. Interment with military honors will follow the service at Onondaga Valley Cemetery, 2500 Valley Drive, Syracuse, New York.
