Vernon F. Harmon

Vernon F. Harmon November 12, 1952 - April 12, 2014 Vernon Frank Harmon, 61, of Syracuse died Saturday, April 12, 2014 at home, family at his side. He suffered through a short but painful battle with cancer. He is loved and will be missed by Elaine Stevens, Candice Harmon and his two daughters Carrie Ann Johnson and husband Shannon of Syracuse and Chelsea Marie Harmon and Fiance Josh Kelly of Rochester; also surviving are Elaine’s daughters, Laurie Bobbette and John of Pompey, Amy Bobbette and Brent of Liverpool and three grandchildren, Chanel, Jack and Brianna; He also leaves behind sister, Francine Dunn and husband Jim of Liverpool, Edie and Mike Cooper and Joanne and Richard Piazza all of North Carolina. He has many cousins, nieces and nephews who will miss him greatly. He was predeceased by his parents Elnora and Frank Harmon. Vern worked many years at General Electric and Anaphase Electric until he was sidelined with back injuries. He traveled all over New York State and the south working at nuclear power plants. Vern had many talents and capabilities and in his son-in-law Shannon’s words was a real “MacGyver”. He could fix almost anything with almost nothing! Vern wore many hats in his lifetime but the ones he loved the best were “Daddy-O” and “Pa” from his cherished daughters and granddaughter. He was an excellent cook and enjoyed “creating”; even from his hospital bed. Much thanks to St. Joseph’s Palliative Care Team and Hospice of CNY for finally controlling his pain and making his last days comfortable. Very special thanks to lifelong friends Debbie and Brant Tomushunas for their never ending love and support. Tom LaForce for always being there for help to Vern and continued contact and support. Chip and Maryanne for their ability to lift his spirit with their humorous texts, wonderful food and gifts at the holidays. Vern was out of sight but not forgotten by you, and to Jim Fraig who continued to offer his support and friendship. Vern touched many lives, a few may have wished he didn’t! – but was always a good friend to those who deserved it. Calling hours will be on Saturday, April 19, 2014 from 1 to 3 pm with services to follow immediately at 3 at Ballweg & Lunsford Funeral Home, Inc., 4612 South Salina Street, Syracuse, New York.
