Marjory Bell Johnson

Marjory Bell Johnson April 20, 1918 - October 7, 2011 Marjory Bell Johnson, 93, of Nedrow, New York, passed away peacefully at her home on Friday, October 7, 2011 after a long battle with Alzheimers disease. Marjory was born in Ottawa, Ontario, Canada on April 20, 1918, and as a young woman, she worked on the family farm with her father and her six sisters following the unexpected death of her mother. In the 1930s, she worked at E. B. Eddy Paper Company in Ottawa. She married Alex G. Johnson in 1941. While Alex was serving in the Royal Canadian Air Force, they were stationed in Arnprior, Ontario, Canada and Prince Edward Island. After the war, Marjory and Alex operated a small berry farm where they grew strawberries and raspberries as cash crops. They also operated a laundromat The Washateria. In 1954 Alex and Marge moved to Syracuse, New York where they owned and operated the Alma Motel in Mattydale, New York. In 1956 they bought and operated the Al-Bel Motel on South Salina Street in Nedrow, New York. Marge also worked for Business Creators in the 1980s. She loved to bake and was known for her chocolate chip cookies. She was predeceased by her husband, Alex G. Johnson on October 12, 2010, her son, James G. Johnson on April 15, 1996 and five sisters, Dorothy (Victor) Froome, Ethel (Fred) Adams, Pearl (Ira) Howe, Marion (Robert) Sherwood, Margaret (Mert) Wylie. She is survived by a daughter and son-in-law, Bonita and James Davis; a sister, Hazel (Sid) Sparks of Osgoode, Ontario, Canada; grandsons, James (Carrie Rouse), Jeffrey (Gretchen Nicholas) and Jonathon (Kasie) Johnson; a granddaughter, Melanie Davis of Cocoa Beach, Florida; three great-grandchildren, Nina, Mae and Tyler; her brother-in-law, Mert Wylie of Ottawa, Ontario, Canada; many nieces and nephews. Calling hours are from 5:00 8:00 p.m. Monday, October 10, 2011 at Ballweg & Lunsford Funeral Home, 4612 S. Salina Street, Syracuse, New York 13205. Services will be 11:00 a.m. Tuesday, October 11, 2011 at Ballweg & Lunsford Funeral Home, 4612 S. Salina Street, Syracuse, New York 13205, followed by a luncheon at the Nedrow Fire Department, 6505 S. Salina Street, Nedrow, New York 13205 at noon. Burial will be at a later date in Onondaga Valley Cemetery, 2500 Valley Drive, Syracuse, New York 13207. Contributions may be made to the Alzheimers Association, CNY Chapter, 441 W.
